CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

Randi has vast experience with the City of Boston and as an urban planner.  She has wisdom, guts, experience and a vast web of contacts. She is insightful and determined.  And she is engaging and fun to work with.  I could not recommend her more highly.

Ronald Ruth

Sherin and Lodgen LLP

I worked with Randi extensively during my 6+ tenure as President and Vice President for the Bay Village Neighborhood Association, a civic organization in a centrally located historic district in Boston.

Despite Bay Village’s small size, it’s central location meant we were (and are) constantly buffeted by planning for projects in and around our neighborhood. Randi always stood out for her ability to listen and to frame concerns we voiced in a constructive fashion. “Translating” between resident interest and organizational intention takes a good ear, parsing out meaningful information from what often sounds a blizzard of noise to all sides in a project, and the ability to find meaningful, productive compromises for the residents and for the City as whole.

Her skill in this regard is exceptional. We didn’t always see eye to eye (and in urban real estate projects, it’s probably impossible to get all parties to agree on everything), but you always knew Randi understood and made sure neighborhood concerns were addressed openly.

If you know Randi’s well-established reputation as an individual who helped revitalize her own neighborhood as Boston “grew up”, this ability to gather and frame resident concerns and development makes perfect sense: she’s lived the battles herself. It would be hard to find someone better versed or better skilled at moving projects ahead thanks to her well-deserved reputation for sensitivity to resident concerns as urban design challenges are faced.

Randi is great fun to work with because she understands people’s goals and gets things done. I got to know her when she was the Washington St., Main Street maven, and I was working on a community project. Randi is a go-to person for knowledge of the community, the city and government. We next worked together at the then-Boston Redevelopment Authority, where are her knowledge of the community and her skills at reaching out to the community and building trust were the best in the house! Randi is effective, wise and creative – A great partner!

In the creation and establishment of Back Deck in downtown Boston, Randi was very helpful and instrumental in suggesting potential locations, recommending financing sources, and providing permitting and licensing support.

Every time I would ask for advice from Randi about a project in the City of Boston, she provided honest, direct and succinct information. No wasting time or dollars. Enthusiastic encouragement where and when it was needed, but Randi was swift to discount unreasonable construction projects. Her long-term view of, and the persistence to shepherd projects to success & fruition, will be the hallmark of her success with RG Consulting.

I have worked with Randi for many years first as fellow board member at Project Place (a non-profit that helps homeless and low income individuals find jobs and a home) and now in my capacity as the Director of Social Enterprises at Project Place. Randi knows Boston’s businesses and neighborhoods better than anyone I know. She has connected us with key main street groups and local businesses and has been instrumental in helping us create partnerships that keep neighborhoods beautiful and men and woman working in our outdoor cleaning and janitorial enterprise called Clean Corners…Bright Hopes. Randi has broad and deep experience and is creative, very bright, persistent, and on top of it all is a pleasure to work with! Working with Randi to navigate the often challenging process of obtaining Landmarks Commission approvals was one of the best investments I made in my recent development project. Her insights, advice, and effective advocacy come from years of community and neighborhood activism and a long career as a senior-level policy maker within the BRA. If you have siting, permitting, design review, or community process issues, do yourself a favor and call Randi.

Randi was instrumental in the opening of my art gallery in Downtown Crossing. She greatly assisted in all the details involved, and facilitated the set up and the opening. She helped me with many particulars; the landlord, signage, and even our name was her idea! And when we lost our space two years later, she helped arrange for a new storefront for us. She has been a great supporter, determined and enthusiastic about us/ our store and helping us to succeed.
Jen Matson

Owner of Artists Crossing Art Gallery & JLM Images

In her position of Director of Business Development at the Boston Redevelopment, Ms. Lathrop was instrumental at guiding three of our architectural clients through the complex approvals processes for building in downtown Boston in 2012 through 2014. She guided two of our restaurant clients (Cheeseboy and Amorino Gelato) through the zoning board of appeals process, and personally assisted two of our out-of-town clients (TREECO and Amorino Gelato) with becoming established in Boston. She made our clients feel they had a champion at the City; that’s a big reason they followed through with bringing their projects to Boston. Ms Lathrop is an excellent communicator and leader; She sets realistic expectations and can guide disparate teams through complicated processes for the collective benefit. Ms. Lathrop is a pleasure to collaborate with and is truly an asset to Boston.
